Top mobile apps for mobile people

Away from home, away from your printer, away from friends…here are some great mobile apps that can help simplify your travel life.

  1. I know with the growing need for paperwork on both the hospital and agency sides, it can be very difficult to find a place to fax your documents. CAMSCANNER to the rescue. This application utilizes your phone’s camera to take the picture and then converts the picture to a .pdf file that can easily be emailed to your recruiter.
  2. You arrive in your new city, which will be your home for the next 3-6 months, and you don’t know anyone. MEETUP is a great tool to find out what is going on in that area and to meet other people. It is geared towards people with similar interests. You join the groups that interest you – everything from Scrabble to networking after work. You’ll find dance groups, wine groups, and just about anything that interests you. It IS NOT a dating site, but simply a tool for bringing people together with similar interests.
  3. Getting your mail can sometimes be challenging…you may not know what your address is going to be before you leave. You may be in a hotel first and then moving. So many variables come into play which makes it very difficult to do any kind of “mail forwarding”. Time for TRAVELING MAILBOX! This app provides you with a unique, real physical street address. When the mail arrives, just the envelope is scanned and sent to you. You have the option to decide what happens then – they can open and scan contents for you to read, give them an address and have them forward the actual envelop to you, shred it, return it, or hold it. They guarantee that if you tell them to open it, the contents are scanned within 10 minutes for you.
  4. Don’t you hate when you are on the road in the middle of unfamiliar territory and have no idea how far it is to the next gas station. GAS BUDDY  will get you directed to the nearest gas station, and if several are around, the prices will be available as well.
  5. Need to get an oil change, haircut, or find a good place to shop/eat? YELP  has over 50 million business reviewed throughout the nation. Put in what you need and you’ll get reviews, phone numbers, and directions all in the palm of your hand.
  6. miFlights is a great app if you are flying to your next assignment. It gives you live, real time status on all flights. You can also track your progress while you are in flight using the in-flight option. You can usually get your gate for your next flight while still in flight. You can also find out if you are delayed and need to run as fast as you can across the airport. It provides all the information you need to help your travels be a little less stressful.

  1. I always try to be on time for flights… but there’s been those times when I putter around at my gate for two hours thanks to the airport being completely empty. You’ll soon learn whether or not you need to get a move on or have that second cup of coffee with MiFlight at your fingertips. It’s one more thing that’s helped me remove one more ounce of uncertainty at the airport. Love the new additions and expanded support. The backgrounds are beautiful and the gorgeous interface is incredibly intuitive.
