Seasonal Tips for your Summer Assignment

With spring in full swing and summer on its way, you are probably beginning to see your calendar fill up with many different activities. No matter the location of your summer locum tenens assignment, barbeques, sporting events, and other outdoor activities are sure to make an appearance. I, like many people, love to be outside with the sun shining down on me, but there are certain things we all must remember.

Allergies are a big problem for many people and it seems like they’ve come out of nowhere this year. Sneezing and itchy eyes are fun for no one. Be prepared, especially if you are on assignment in a new location and aren’t sure how you might react. Have medicine on hand to take when you feel like allergies are affecting you.

Sunscreen isn’t just for kids. Even if you are only going to be in the sun for a short period of time, it is important to lather on the sunscreen. Would you rather spend a couple minutes applying sunscreen or a couple days dealing with annoying sunburn? Your weekday shifts will seem a lot longer if you are uncomfortable!

Drinking plenty of water and staying hydrated while enjoying time outside is crucial. Even if you aren’t taking part in any physical activity, just being in the sun can dehydrate you. Be sure to pack enough water bottles to get you through the day.

Summer is a time for fun and I hope you have plenty of it! Staying aware and taking these precautions will help prevent any unplanned incidents that might put a damper on any of your plans.
