Apple’s Health Revolution

Apple’s September 9th event clarified many of the rumors that have been buzzing as the tech giant unveiled a number of new devices. New devices included two new phones, a new tablet, and a wearable device the media has named the “iWatch”. Pre-order was so rampant that it crashed Apple’s site at first availability. This is the first big roll out since Apple’s new CEO Tim Cook took the helm; it has been 8 months in 2014 without a single new product for Apple.

The big buzz for the medical industry is the collaboration of Mayo Clinic with Apple on the HealthKit application. The Mayo Clinic has been partnering with Apple for the last two years, helping to develop the application.

Mayo Clinic demonstrated how the HealthKit application works and how the Health app can flow into sophisticated management systems of their health center. Apple’s partnership with Mayo Clinic is a sign that they are serious about their entry into the health arena. The combination of these two giants may really boost the practice of routinely tracking health conditions and fitness performance.

Apple unveiled details about a new app HealthKit. It will include the ability to track your heart rate, calories burned, blood sugar, and cholesterol all in one place. Users will be able to create an emergency card with important health information. It will be available from the lock screen.

HealthKit will be available on the iPhone’s new operating system iOS 8 on Sept. 17.  As all new technology, this will be an interesting launch to “watch”.
