WV school accepting applications for physical therapy doctorate

A West Virginia school is preparing for its inaugural class for a Doctor of Physical Therapy, according to a published report.

Set to begin in May 2012, the program at Huntington University presently is accepting applications for review, according to Huntington News. Dr. Penny G. Kroll, chair of the physical therapy department, said the school anticipates roughly 40 students per class for the three-year program that requires an obligation of 114 credits.

“So far, the curriculum has been developed, regional accreditation has been received, and I added a director of clinical education last January,” Kroll told the news source. “We are now in the process of hiring additional faculty, and a good amount of space is being renovated … to house the program. It should be ready in late April.”

Program officials have set a December 1 deadline for priority consideration to applications. Applications that arrive after that date will be considered for remaining openings.

October is National Physical Therapy Month and the American Physical Therapy Association is raising awareness for preventing sports injury and enabling people to continue with active lifestyles.
