Work as a travel nurse with your best friend

One of the best things about having a career in travel nursing is the flexibility it provides. You have the ability to work anywhere in the country, taking one assignment in an urban location like downtown Chicago and taking another among the beautiful mountains of Southwest Virginia. If you need a break between contracts for a little rest and relaxation, it shouldn't be a problem.  In many ways, this is the beauty of working as a travel nurse.

Another great aspect of the career is that you can bring loved ones along for the adventure. Whether you want your spouse, children or pet cat Mittens to accompany you, you'll be able to make arrangements with your travel nurse agency to do so. However, what you also may want to consider is working with your fellow nurse friend as a travel nurse team. After all, what could be better than exploring a new location and working with your best friend? Celebrate National Nurses Week 2012 by making travel plans with your nursing friend.

Work together or close by

Everyone has best friends who they could spend countless hours with, telling stories and having fun. However, most people also have the friends who they can only take in small doses. Fortunately, you can choose to work with your nursing friend frequently, at the same hospital or clinic, or you could simply work in the same city at a different location.

Either way, it will be great to have a familiar face nearby when you have a stressful shift and you could use some cheering up, or even if you'd just like someone to see the local sights with you. Working as a team with your best friend from nursing school, or perhaps a nurse you became close with on an assignment, is a good way for you both to have a support system at all times.

Share an apartment

Having a roommate while on assignment can be a lot of fun. Cooking for two is easier than preparing meals for one – and there's always someone to watch your favorite sitcom or movie with. You can coordinate with the travel nurse agency to get housing accommodations with two bedrooms and plenty of space for you both.

Because you likely haven't had a roommate since your college or nursing school days, keep in mind it may take a little getting used to at first. The most important thing you both can do is be respectful of the other's space and need for quiet when a long or early shift is coming up the next day.
