Staying Safe on Travel Assignments

Does anyone aside from me get depressed watching the news? It seems like it’s all negative news, whether it’s crime or natural disasters.  I’m here to tell you that the good in the world outweighs the negative, but we can all learn from some of these stories, especially as you are traveling to a new city and are unaware of your surroundings and the people.  Here are some tips to make sure you’re safe when entering a new city:

-Plan to be with at least one other friend when going to a bar or out to eat in an area you don’t know.

-Trust your instincts.  If any social situation becomes uncomfortable or feels wrong, remain calm and leave immediately.

-Be aware of your surroundings and travel the safest route available, even if it means taking the longer route to ensure you don’t get stuck in a bad neighborhood.

-Be sure to lock your car and house/apartment.

-Find someone to walk you to your car if it’s parked in a non-lit area.

When traveling the country and enjoying new sights and sounds, take advantage of the opportunity to see new things, but keep in mind your surroundings at all times until you feel comfortable with the areas.
