Physical therapy helps Louisiana man walk again

Trevor Wallace of Northeast Louisiana is learning to walk again, slightly less than one year after he was seriously injured during a hunting trip on Thanksgiving Day 2010, according to a published report.

The Bastrop Enterprise reports Wallace capitalized on the services of Project Walk, a rehabilitative center in Southern California that specializes in spinal column injuries. Wallace at first was concerned about his ability to endure five hours of therapy each day for five weeks with healthcare providers who have physical therapy jobs.

"It was more about using your mind than I thought it would be," Trevor told the publication. "They wanted us to focus on using certain muscle groups in certain ways, and that took some getting used to. Once we got through that, it was a lot easier to grasp what it was they were trying to get us to do."

Wallace was one of the first clients to use the new 15,000 square foot training facility at Project Walk.

He is working with a healthcare provider who holds a physical therapy job in Louisiana and he plans to practice what he learned in California.
