Online education opportunities for traveling nurses

Modern technology allowing, online educational opportunities are on the rise. As a result, a traveling nurse may wish to work for a specialty organization or on other educational pursuits – all from the comfort of his or her own home computer.

The 2010 Sloan Survey of Online Learning revealed approximately 5.6 million American students were enrolled in at least one online course for the Fall 2009 scholastic semester. The 21 percent growth rate of online learning that this reveals far exceeds the 2 percent growth rate of overall higher learning.

Time is valuable and often hard to come by, so travel nurses looking to gain a speciality or further educate themselves on new medical procedures and practices may wish to take an online course. Online nurse education programs may divide classrooms by industry license or certification.

Online education is no longer considered easier than traditional higher education, where attendance is often required. The online option allows nurses to learn at different paces or schedule course work around a shift. Traveling nurses may dedicate themselves to any assignment at any location without pausing to consider how moving would affect their educational pursuits.
