Sometimes a simple thank you can go a long way. This statement is no more valid than in the case of Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistants.
The World Federation of Occupational Therapists defines occupational therapy as a profession concerned with promoting health and well-being through occupation. Breaking this down, OTs and OTAs essentially help give patients back the ability of living life to its fullest.
Anyone who has gone through therapy in the past can quickly recall memories of the pain and exhaustion associated with the therapy process. Many patients probably don’t recall the kind and supportive individual who helped guide them through the rehab process. Having the ability to do something as simple as writing a to-do list or grabbing a quick bite for lunch could not be possible for many without the help of an OT or OTA. As simple as this sounds, many of us would be lost without the ability to do either!
So make sure to take an extra minute to thank an OT or OTA.
