Medical careers to continue hot streak

Healthcare professionals, managers and support staff members are among the 10 most in-demand industries for job hunters this year, according to Fortune magazine.

As a consequence of the aging of the U.S. general population, job opportunities in healthcare are riding a hot streak that is unlikely to end any time soon. The nation is projected to need nearly 104,000 additional registered nurses every year as well as nearly 7,900 new people with physical therapy jobs per year.

The aging of the baby boomer generation will likely have a large impact on the healthcare sector as these soon-to-be retired people will need help from those with nursing jobs in their golden years. Additionally, many of these individuals worked in the the healthcare field, meaning that they will have to be replaced by younger people with medical careers.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 10 of the nation's 20 most rapidly developing jobs are germane to healthcare. In the decade leading to 2018, 3.2 million medical career opportunities are likely to be created, many of which are due to geriatric concerns.
