South Carolina retirement home to create healthcare jobs

Construction is scheduled to begin in July for a $30 million South Carolina retirement home that is likely to create roughly 130 jobs, many of which will be nursing positions, according to The Charlotte Observer.

Wellmore in Tega Cay is scheduled to open in January 2014 and will be equipped with skilled nursing services, creating an opportunity for nursing jobs. Mayor George Sheppard said the facility is geared toward a more upscale clientele who can get many of their health services on premises.

"It will take our seniors who are used to experiencing 'The Good Life' and when their health requires a little more attention, they usually leave the good life and go somewhere else," the mayor said. "Now they won't have to leave the good life – they can move into this assisted living facility."

Wellmore is part of the portfolio of Senior Living Communities, which is based in Charlotte. Hiring for the various healthcare jobs and other opportunities is scheduled for five months prior to the facility opening.

A company spokeswoman said the firm will conduct job fairs during Summer 2013.
