Nursing job demand remains high, conference attendees learn

Roughly 100 aspiring nurses in Wisconsin attended a conference this past weekend where they learned demand for nurses with advanced qualifications is high, according to Channel 3000.

Hosted by Madison College, the seventh annual Madison Area Student Nurses Association conference also indicated the need for nurses is high. Within years, thousands of working nurses will submit their retirement, one reason that demand for nurses is so high, according to nursing instructor Mara Eisch with Madison College.

"We've got a very aging population of nurses, and those jobs are going to be there. So we need to be preparing those people now," she said, also noting newly graduated nurses will likely have to relocate to different locales statewide as part of the effort to find gainful employment. "No matter where healthcare is being provided, nurses are there."

By 2018, at least 580,000 new nursing jobs will be created, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Qualified candidates are able to fill a variety of nursing jobs within the profession including health screenings, immunization clinics and public seminars, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
