Master’s program being prepped for nursing students in Southeast Louisiana

A school in Southeast Louisiana is driving toward establishing a master's program for nursing students who then would be more eligible to pursue nursing jobs, according to a published report.

Nicholls State University in Thibodaux received permission from the University of Louisiana system, which oversees the suburban New Orleans school, to merge efforts with other schools that help students peck away at advanced degrees in nursing, Houma Today reports. Those schools are the Lafayette and McNeese campuses of the University of Louisiana and Southeastern University in Hammond.

"This is just one step in a very lengthy and complicated process," nursing-school dean Sue Westbrook with Nicholls State University told the news source. "But right now we don't foresee any problems, and we're really excited about getting started."

In order to gain entry to the consortium, the Board of Regents and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools must grant approval.

Students select their home school and complete the majority of their work at that institute. One benefit of the collaboration between schools in the consortium is students' abilities of capitalizing on other schools' professors and additional resources.
