Healthcare boosts Kansas employment figures

The economy of the state of Kansas is largely supported by hospitals that attract business, sustain those interests and create career opportunities within the healthcare industry such as nursing jobs, according to a report by the Kansas Hospital Association summarized by Fierce Healthcare.

Released last week, the report notes the healthcare industry helped generate $10.2 billion in payroll compensation while employing more than one in every 10 employees in the state last year. Eleven percent of job holders in Kansas work in hospitals.

The medical centers provide gainful employment to 3.4 percent of all job holders in the state of Kansas, which equals 73,890 people. The direct labor income yielded for those individuals exceeds $4.2 billion.

The report states for each dollar of income deriving from hospitals, an additional 48 cents comes from other industries. State income across all industries is impacted by $6.3 billion total from Kansas hospitals.

Leaders in government, business and civic realms ought to merge efforts with healthcare administrators to help provide for healthcare that is affordable and accessible, the report states.
