Hot Destination: Hawaii

Not many people have the luxury of working at multiple locations across the country, let alone getting to choose where they want to work. But as a traveling healthcare professional, you do! Your options are endless, but that can make it difficult to decide where you want to take an assignment. Join us for our three part blog series highlighting the hottest destinations for those in the travel healthcare industry. You definitely don’t want to miss out on what these places have to offer you!

Our first stop – Hawaii! I feel like this destination doesn’t even need an explanation, but considering that’s the whole point, I’ll give you one! Even if you have never been to Hawaii, you know it is breathtakingly beautiful. You’ve seen pictures and you’ve heard friends and family rave about their visit to the islands. Having been to Hawaii, I beg you – go experience it for yourself! I’ve put together a list of a few fun things to see and do on each island.

Kauai – Waimea Canyon is on the west side of Kauai and is nicknamed “The Grand Canyon of the Pacific.” It is 14 miles long, one mile wide, and more than 3,600 feet deep. Don’t forget your camera! The only navigable rivers in Hawaii are on Kauai and the most popular is the Wailua River. Explore this 20-mile long river by kayak, canoe, or boat tours. One of the most photographed places on Kauai is the Spouting Horn blowhole, based off of Hawaiian legends. What is the legend you ask? You must visit to find out! Pearl Harbor

Oahu – Even if you aren’t a history buff, you need to make time to visit Pearl Harbor – it will be worth it. Five sites honor the events that drove the United States into WWII. Diamond Head State Monument is a 760-foot crater on Oahu and is one of Hawaii’s most famous landmarks. Hike to the top for panoramic views of Waikiki and the south shore. A popular snorkeling destination is Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve. Swim in blue waters while exploring reefs full of vibrant fish. For more fun things to do on Oahu, click here.

Molokai – Visit Kaunakakai to take a stroll down the state’s longest pier or around the town’s main strip to browse boutiques in the business district. On the west side of Molokai, you will find Papohaku Beach, one of Hawaii’s largest white sand beaches. Whether you camp overnight or just go for a picnic lunch, you’ll be free from distractions. Sweetheart Rock

Lanai – A 4-wheel drive vehicle is required on your trip to Shipwreck Beach. This eight-mile stretch of beach is known for wrecking multiple ships along its rocky channel. See the hull of an oil tanker from the 1940s. Puu Pehe, or Sweetheart Rock, is a natural landmark and a Hawaiian legend between Hulopeo Bay and Manele Bay. Just a short hike will get you to the top. If you are looking for seclusion, head to Polihua Beach for a 2-mile stretch of remote sand. Once again, a 4-wheel drive vehicle is required. For more fun things to do on Lanai, click here.

Maui – Hana, Maui is considered one of the last unspoiled Hawaiian frontiers. With 620 curves and 59 bridges, the legendary road to Hana is a scenic drive you’ll want to make – maybe more than once. 15 minutes south of Hana are the famous Pools of Oheo – pools fed by waterfalls. Relax in these tranquil pools or take a self-guided hike for further exploration. Molokini is a crescent moon-shaped island, spanning only 18 acres. The reef-filled waters offer visitors snorkeling and diving and more than 250 species of fish. For more fun things to do on Maui, click here.

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

Hawaii Island – You can’t go to Hawaii and not visit Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, home of one of the most active volcanoes on earth. 150 miles of hiking trails will lead you through craters, deserts, and rainforests. Drive north on Highway 270 and, literally, at the end of the road, take in views of Pololu Valley and the northeastern coastline. Historic Kailua Village is a seaside town known for great shopping, dining, and learning about Hawaii’s rich culture. Stay after sunset to experience the great nightlife of the Big Island.
