Physical therapists serve as variation of painkiller

People who hold physical therapy jobs are a key resource for individuals' whose mishaps or accidents result in orthopedic problems that cause pain, according to a published report.

Injuries that are orthopedic in nature typically break down as either acute or chronic, The Nelson County Times reports. An acute injury is a one-time occurrence that impacts an area of the body that normally would be pain free. Chronic injuries are from wear and tear and one of these types of injuries would be when driving a car results in lower back pain.

In either case, there are various ways of treating the pain, which a physical therapist will do after observing the patient's posture and how physically able the patient is, both of which might prompt the onset of pain.

"What's good for your neighbor may not be good for you," physical therapist Janet Ngai in Arrington, Virginia, told the news source, noting that gentle movement of the injured region may occur once swelling has subsided.

Employment opportunities for physical therapists are projected to develop 39 percent during the 10-year period leading up to 2020, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
