Boston hospital’s school to encourage physical therapy jobs

Physical therapy labs are among the new additions to a Boston hospital's expansion plans, according to Boston.com.

The Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions is growing into a fourth building. The effort is driving towards accommodating a growing student body as well as encouraging students by merging efforts inside the classroom.

"This expansion marks an historic event for the Institute," school president Janis P. Bellack said last week during a ribbon cutting. "Our space now exceeds 100,000 square feet – a 50 percent increase in the past decade. This additional space offers our students a cutting-edge learning environment, and eases crowding in our main academic building."

The school has seen its matriculation nearly double in the past seven years. Its enrollment now amounts to almost 1,200 students, many of whom are gearing up to work physical therapy jobs.

The new facility will include classrooms with modern technology for students probing physical therapy as well as nursing and speech-language pathology, according to the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professionals. The students' abilities to share information will be streamlined with the expansion.
