Ways for travel nurse professionals to pamper themselves at home

After a long shift, there's nothing a travel nurse desires more than some relaxation. But even if don't have the time or money to let loose on a weekend getaway, you can still enjoy a nice pampering in the comfort of your own home. Here are some ways to lighten the load:

Long Bath
The sound of running water, warm suds and some soft music in the background makes for an ideal way to kick back. Before this happens, though, turn off your phone – you'll thank yourself when you don't have ringtones chiming every few minutes. Peace and quiet is exactly what an exhausted nurse need. To set the mood, light some candles. It's time to refresh your mind and body.

Give yourself a massage
For a quick self-massage, you don't need pricey physical therapy equipment. Place two tennis balls in a  tube sock for a deep-tissue massage. Then lie down on the floor and place the sock under your lower back with the balls positioned on each side of your spine. Using a slow movement, roll your body back and forth (toward your head and then toward your feet), letting the tennis balls knead your muscles.

Put on the sweats and watch a comedy
A healthy dose of laughter is exactly what the doctor ordered. Ditch the scrubs, put on sweatpants or PJs and cruise through your queue of funniest TV shows or comedy movies. The goal? Laugh and laugh. Even though you're sitting on the couch for a few hours, you'll leave feeling refreshed.

Call a friend
A great way to relax and feel loved is to catch up with a close friend or family member. It's been too long since you talked to Danielle or Elisa on the other end of the country, why not carve out a little time with your close pals? Chatting with a loved one can provide an energy boost, especially if you're feeling tired. According to an article published in American College of Sports Medicine Health & Fitness, talking with a loved one gives you a microburst, or a quick jolt of energy, that's comparable to coffee. No doubt it's a great pick-me up!

Pamper yourself with a facial
Self-care is part of a nurse's wellness plan. Though you may not have a wad of cash to spend on a facial at the spa, there's plenty of do-it-yourself kits. Using real food from your kitchen, such as yogurt and cucumbers, can be just as effective. Plus, having a facial at least four times a year can be amazing for your skin. Unclog your pores, exfoliate and give yourself a gorgeous complexion.

Give yourself a manicure and pedicure
For travel nursing professionals who want to look good, a mani and pedi are the route to go! Like facials, there's no need to get an expensive treatment. Clean your nails with polish remover, file them down, exfoliate your hands and feet and then apply polish for an hour of "me" time.

Dance to music
Crank up the tunes and get your groove on. It doesn't matter that you're rocking out by yourself – if anything, it eliminates feeling embarrassed. Dancing solo not only gives people a sense of release, it's also a great form of exercise. No one's too old to put on some favorite music and move.
