Travel Healthcare and Social Media

Video Transcription

As a travel healthcare professional, social media is a great way to stay connected with friends and family, to engage in conversation, and to share your adventures with others in your circle. At the same time, it’s important to keep in mind some of the potential pitfalls. Aureus Medical is here with a few dos and don’ts.

Post smart. It’s okay to express yourself, but be careful about what you post and share. It takes a quick search for employers to learn about you through your social media presence. Make sure what is found is the image you want to convey.

Use caution when inviting or accepting connections. It’s in your best interest not to connect with patients on social media and to keep your personal and work life separate.

Network professionally. Become active on LinkedIn and on other similar sites. Joining industry groups online is an ideal way to broaden your professional circle.

Be mindful of patient privacy. Sharing or discussing protected health information could get you in legal trouble and put your career at risk. Don’t do it.

Talk up your travels. Give your social network glimpse of your life while on assignment on sites such as Facebook and Instagram. Share photos and provide commentary. Consider blogging!

Getting social is fun and useful. Just keep in mind where to draw the line.
