4 Tips for RV Beginners

Traveling with an RV is becoming more and more popular in the travel industry. What’s not to love? You do not have to pack or unpack, you can sleep wherever and whenever, and so much more! As popular as it is, there are some things to keep in mind when traveling with an RV. Here are four tips for RV beginners.

Test drive before the real drive

No matter what vehicle you drove before or how good your driving record is, hauling a motor home is an adjustment! Take some time to practice before you head out on your assignment. Work on driving on highways, side roads, dirt roads, windy roads, and any type of roads you can find. Before you go on your assignment, map out your journey so you experience little to no surprises.

Take time to learn your RV

Being an RV owner is a two-for-one special! You get to be a home owner and a vehicle owner. With that being said, make sure you study on how your motor home works. Learn how to make simple fixes to any breaks or malfunctions on the RV. Better yet, learn a few of the complex ones, too.

Find your campground sooner rather than later and get there during the daytime

Before you accept your assignment, research the area and ask your recruiter for any recommendations for campgrounds. Once you’ve accepted your assignment, make your reservation at a campground that you feel would be a good fit. Another tip is to get there during the daytime. Setting up your rig in the dark can be stressful especially if you are doing it for the first time.

Pack light

It can be tempting to get carried away with packing, especially for your first RV trip! After talking with my employees who travel with their RV, packing light is always a common theme. Not only does it make your RV safer by ensuring proper balance and weight distribution, it helps you keep a simple and less stressful lifestyle.

An RV has all the tools to make your travel assignment an adventurous journey! Memories of a lifetime are calling your name, but make sure to prepare so you can have an unforgettable journey.  What advice would you give to a new RV traveler? Comment below!
