Technology for the travel PT

There are a number of ways you may use electronics to get acquainted with your new city during your time as a travel physical therapy professional, but have you thought about incorporating technology into your work? There are a number of online resources, smartphone applications and other electronic devices you can introduce your patients to in order to change up the same old tired routine.

Go Motive
Take advantage of the organizational tools provided by Go Motive's on-the-go software during each of your travel PT jobs. You can set up the information and access it on your computer, smartphone or tablet for easy reference at any time. Organize your thoughts by prescribing exercises for each of your patients, in addition to including information regarding sets, reps and other notes. This is a great way to eliminate the need for carrying around a bunch of paperwork while you work. Your patients can even benefit from Go Motive's program. Create videos to share with your patients explaining how to properly complete exercises. The software even gives you the ability to track patient progress and you can input motivational feedback to keep them working their hardest toward a full recovery.

Home Team
Your patients may want to take advantage of the services provided by Home Team, especially once their physical therapy sessions come to a close. The company was founded by Tim Fu and Ben Gelfand and aims at creating "exciting, engaging and effective" therapy routines for individuals to follow. There are videos available here that demonstrate how to take on certain exercises. From there, they can obtain a personalized program and track their progress throughout it all. Home Team's goal is the same as yours – getting patients back to their previous physical state.

Irehab
This Hawaii-based company was founded by Keith Krugh who studied exercise science and human movement science. Throughout his career, Krugh has worked with physical therapists in order to develop post-rehabilitation programs. The information is available online or by downloading an application on your smartphone or tablet. While working in travel therapy, you will be able to use Irehab's software to send patients exercises and improve the care you're providing. Your patients can also use the technology to create customized exercise routines for their backs, knees, shoulders and necks.

Rehab in Motion
You can also use Rehab in Motion's programs to provide patients with a variety of exercise training videos. The online videos will offer assistance with spinal rehabilitation in addition to injuries that have affected an individual's upper or lower extremities. Those suffering from severe neck and back pain can purchase the spinal video that aims to restore normal function of the area. Whether your patient has suffered from a shoulder, rotator cuff, elbow, wrist or hand injury, the video for upper extremities can help alleviate weakness and stiffness. Help with injures that have affected a hip, knee, ankle or foot with the lower extremities video. Rehab in Motion is currently working on the development of guides for abdominal surgeries and cardiovascular training.
