Healthcare staffing increases expected to continue to grow

While it may seem that every sector is shrinking in the U.S. there is one that is clearly not: healthcare.

The month of September saw the U.S. gain about 103,000 jobs, with the healthcare sector being one of the largest contributors to this figure by adding 44,000 jobs, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Healthcare staffing will continue to contribute to the nation’s growth, and educating these people – many of whom will hold nursing jobs – is of the utmost importance.

The Maine Health Workforce Forum recently and addressed the need for healthcare education, reports the Bangor Daily News. Maine Governor Paul LePage said that he intended to help high school students get a head start on the road to a job in the healthcare field by educating them about post secondary education options.

“The education system must provide people to fill these positions that provide high pay and a good quality of life,” the governor said in his address to the forum.

According to the BLS, employment for registered nurses is expected to grow by 22 percent during the 10-year period ending in 2018.
