3 Tips for Finding Short-Term Housing

By Karina Conti, Nursing and Imaging Social Media Recruiter, Aureus Medical

Whether you’re a seasoned traveler or on your first contract, there’s one decision that can make or break your assignment — finding short-term housing! There are a handful of factors that you must consider when looking for your next accommodations: Is it in a safe and convenient location? Pet friendly? Within a reasonable budget? Fully furnished? Be prepared to do your research, but in the meantime, here are 3 tips to help YOU find the best short-term housing.

1. Beware of “too good to be true” offers online.

When researching housing, make sure to verify your online sources to see if what’s being offered is real. You can certainly find some great housing options online through various websites, but if you come across any red flags or something seems odd, you may be on to something. Always follow your gut. I personally highly recommend joining the private Facebook group First Time Healthcare Travelers! Many members are in the same shoes as you, trying to find quality housing for their first assignment, and this question comes up often in the group.

2. Check out vacation rental websites.

Vacation rental websites such as Airbnb or VRBO are wonderful resources to consider when looking for short-term housing for your assignment. For the most part, these websites are good at keeping scammers away and have been a reliable option for many travelers. Just remember, the best accommodations are often scooped up fast. To find the best options for you, filter your housing search based on how long you’re looking to stay, your assignment dates, and preferred locations.

3. Don’t sleep on extended stay hotels.

Another solution to finding the best travel housing is to look into extended stay hotels! Many travelers really enjoy this option for their assignments. With this option, there are often bonus amenities that you can take advantage of while on an assignment, such as breakfast, housekeeping, fitness, centers, and pet-friendly hotels.

You will have a lot of choices to make after you accept your assignment, many of which will determine how well the next 8-13 weeks will go! And finding your home away from home is one of the most important decisions. Be smart about how you spend your time and money when it comes to short-term housing.
