too old to travel

I’m Too Old To Travel – They Are All Youngsters!

In my previous blog I mentioned the myth of being too old to travel. This is still something I hear frequently from individuals who are thinking about traveling at an older age. Do not let your age stop you! Travel is possible for people at any age.

Facilities do not care about your age. Are you passionate? Are you a hard worker? Do you care for your patients well? THOSE are the things that matter. Not your age. Also, as someone who has worked in the healthcare industry for a while, you have knowledge and skills that can be passed onto other travelers.

I know the thought of traveling can be scary, especially when it is something you haven’t ever done before. But what is life without getting outside of your comfort zone? Not only will you grow as an individual, but you will be able to see some amazing parts of the country and check places off of your bucket list.

If you have been in the healthcare industry for a while now, but haven’t made the jump into traveling, what’s stopping you? After reading this blog, I hope it is not your age. No matter how old you are– traveling could be for you. So why not step outside your comfort zone and try something new? The adventure awaits.

  1. I am 68 yo and still doing the travel thing. Not as much but a couple of assignments a year is enough but by choice.

  2. I agree! I started as traveler at age 56. I think being more mature and having experience helps in the work place. My husband is retired and we love traveling and experiencing different areas.

  3. I am 66 and still working as a traveler, only part of the year. I call it semi-retired! Most assignments appreciate someone with experience. I often have solutions to problems they never thought of.

  4. You are so right. I turned 58 two months ago and have enjoyed Traveling Assignments for almost 2 1/2 yrs.
My Kids are both grown and live away from me. I’m Single, Traveling keeps me around other People and it doesn’t matter Our age difference.
I have 3 grand kids and they can’t keep up with me. LOL!

  5. I travelled for the first time right after my 67th birthday. It was a wonderful experience. I will probably do it a couple of assignments a year. My age was not an issue. I am a hard worker and have 35 years of experience to bring to labs. That was working in just two hospitals but at the last hospital I worked in all areas except Microbiology, That gave me lots of different areas of experience.

  6. I have often have ambulatory issues due to arthritis. I think traveling would be a lot of fun, however, it is best for me to work 3 days per week. I can usually see 4 patients per day. Is my schedule something you can find work for? I love being a Speech Language Pathologist, and continue to keep up with my licensing yearly. I have a North Carolina SLP license.

  7. Have been traveling consistently now for four years. Presently 66 yrs of age and my plan is to retire at age 67, which happens in May of 2019. Love traveling and love my work, so this may have me just doing a few assignments per yr vs. full time. Miss my kids and am looking forward to more freedom to combine other things along with work.

  8. I also have been wondering if I’m too old to travel. I’m not really that old but I definitely have a lot of great RRT experience I love my career as an RRT and I love being able to take care of patients.
Where I live now, there’s very few jobs for respiratory therapists. I would have more options with a traveling job but I also have 2 pets, small dogs, fur babies, that I love very much and would have to take with me and I don’t know how easily that would be accommodated. I think it would be fun to travel and get to meet new people so I will be looking into this opportunity.
