A Relationship Built On Trust

Trust is one of the most important elements in every human relationship.  Is a friendship, a marriage, or a dating relationship even worth it if you can’t trust the other person?  Probably not!  If your friend tried to set you up with someone and they described them as untrustworthy, would you still pursue the relationship?  Again, probably not.  If another traveling contract employee referred you to their company, but said you can’t really trust them, would you travel with them?  Once again, probably not.

Trust is the pillar of strength in every human relationship.

Does your recruiter call you back when they say they will?  Do they call you back in a timely manner?  Is it your recruiter who calls you back, or their assistant?  Do they really care about you?  Do you trust your recruiter to pay you correctly as per the IRS standards, on time, and every week?  Better yet, do you trust that your recruiter is working hard for you finding your next position, regardless whether it is travel, an extension, or direct hire?

In the travel industry, the business relationships that are formed between contract employees and their recruiters are mostly done over the phone and meeting each other in person is difficult.  Since there is no face-to-face interaction, trust plays an even larger role in your relationship.  So when you are looking for the best company to work for, take a moment to look beyond the pay and location, and qualify your recruiter and company.  It doesn’t matter how much you are getting paid if there is no paycheck on Friday or the IRS is knocking on your door.

I urge you to take the time to get to know your recruiter and build a relationship filled with trust.  It will make your traveling experience that much better and relieve some stress, because you know someone cares while you are on the road representing their company while they are sitting hundreds and often thousands of miles away.

  1. Trusting I guess is built on building a relationship that is more than “Just Business”. So it needs work from both sides and where possible giving help or just support or even taking the time to genuinly asking “how are you today?” The difference that makes the difference.

  2. I have been contacted by your company as recently as 2 weeks ago re: surgical tech positions in New Mexico. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the representative’s name, but it was a female. I was working with Nicole @ 6mos ago, but found a short term position here in CT. I left a message a few days ago and would like to be contacted ASAP with any/all travel tech opportunities. Thank you and I look forward to speaking with you in the near future.

    Sincerely,
    Joy Costa, Surgical Technologist
