National Nurse Practitioner Week

National Nurse Practitioner Week is November 11 through 15.  We want to take this special opportunity to recognize all of our Nurse Practitioners and the hard work they put forth on a daily basis!

Nurse practitioners can help patients in more ways and are allowed to meet a wide range of health care.  As an advanced practice nurse, nurse practitioners have the authority to diagnose illnesses, treat patients, prescribe drugs and other treatments, order diagnostic tests, gather medical histories, and perform physical examinations, much the same as a doctor.  Nurse Practitioners focus on the whole person, educating patients on ways to prevent illness and live a healthier lifestyle.

The number of Nurse Practitioners continues to increase each year with currently 171,000 practicing in the United States.  As the numbers of primary care physicians decreases and the demand for health care services increases, nurse practitioners are in high demand. Nurse practitioners continue to excel and fill the gap, espeically in primary care due to the physician shortage.

So, this week, take the opportunity to give yourself the credit you deserve. Make time for the things that relax and refresh you.  Recognize your needs are just as important as everyone else’s and that it’s up to you to make sure they are taken care of.  Whether it’s’ reading a good book, catching up with friends, seeing a movie, or going on a hike – make time to celebrate yourself this week!

Thank you again to all of our nurse practitioners.  We celebrate you and all of your hard work and dedication to serving others!
