Healthcare represents bountiful career opportunity, student says

A student in Southwest Virginia is confident about her job prospects for a gainful, rewarding career in the healthcare industry, according to a published report.

Lauren Poindexter said that by studying medicine, she is working toward a healthcare career that is needed in society, WSLS 10 reports. A student at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, Poindexter believes that mass amounts of study will prove to be beneficial to her career.

"It's wonderful going into a career where you know your skills are in demand," Poindexter told the news source. "Right now there are quite a few jobs available."

Experts are predicting that there will be a shortage of 124,000 physicians and 500,000 nurses. The Jefferson College of Health Sciences has merged efforts with the Virginia Tech program to host an event that spreads the word about developing healthcare employees.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, nurses help patients and their loved ones become more familiar with treatments that are available while also providing them with moral support.
