Golden retriever joins Philadelphia rehabilitation team’s efforts

A Philadelphia rehabilitation facility has taken on the services of one attractive caregiver, according to a published report.

Equipped with hair that is golden and four legs, Ford has prompted lots of laughs, eats up the attention he draws and is doing his job as the first dog to serve the Magee Rehabilitation Hospital's Facility Dog Program in Center City, according to WPVI. Cate Dorr, who holds an occupational therapy job, said the dog's interaction with patients who are being served by the facility automatically prompts them to work on their rehabilitation.

"When you bring Ford into sessions, we have patients instinctually work on movements," Dorr told Action News.

Ford helps patients as they bounce back after falling or after they stop using ventilators. Specially trained to serve with occupational therapists, Ford knows more than 90 commands.

Ford has been enormously helpful to Terry Boyer who lost his leg in a motorcycle crash. Boyer said that the dog was entirely loyal to him as he worked on regaining balance and confidence.
