Tips for looking great and feeling comfortable in scrubs as a travel nurse

As a travel nurse, do you ever catch yourself at the shopping mall or a clothing boutique wishing you could wear those cute little pencil skirts and suit jackets that other professional women get to wear? Well, just because you wear scrubs to your job doesn't mean you can't still look amazing. The best part about wearing scrubs is that they can look good if you know a few tips and tricks.

Take a look at some of these easy ways to look like a million bucks while you're at the hospital or clinic. Follow a few of these suggestions and you'll be asking yourself "pencil skirt who?"

Finding the right size – Making sure your scrubs fit properly is the first step in looking and feeling your best at work. Whether your top is too tight in the chest or your pants are too loose around the waist, nothing is more irritating and sloppy-looking than an ill-fitting uniform. If you have trouble finding your size or you're not sure what looks best on your body shape, don't be afraid to ask the store attendant. He or she can offer guidance based on the manufacturer's sizing chart. You may also want to consider alterations to ensure you get a professional fit.

Channel your inner fashion goddess – Every lady has her own sense of style, so let yours shine through while wearing your scrubs. Think scrubs are too borin or plain-Jane to do this? Think again! Companies are now making uniforms with all kinds of darts, patterns and pleating so you can pick something a little out of the ordinary. For instance, if you prefer a feminine silhouette, look for a top that's cinched at the waist so it will accentuate your curves.

Accessorize sensibly – While you probably don't want to or can't wear a long, dangle necklace or a wrist full of bangle bracelets at the clinic, this doesn't mean you can't wear simple accessories. Add a pop of color to your outfit by wearing bright earrings or keep your uniform classic by wearing white pearls or small hoops. Headbands and other hair accessories can also turn your ensemble from drab to fab. Be sure to check with the facility's guidelines on appropriate accessories so you know what is acceptable.

Look polished – It's amazing what a difference all of the little things make when it comes to your appearance. Make sure you are looking sharp by keeping your hair neatly groomed and purchasing new scrubs and shoes when they start to show wear. Also, why not get a manicure every once in awhile. It's the finishing touch to your outfit and certainly a well-deserved treat!
