Bursitis, additional shoulder issues should be addressed, physical therapist says

A person who holds a physical therapy job feels very strongly about the importance of addressing shoulder pain, according to a press release.

One of the most intricate joints in the human body, the shoulder also is one of the most used joints. Injuries can prove to be debilitating and obstruct the performance of the most rudimentary daily chores and activities. One shoulder malady, shoulder bursitis, occurs when the shoulder joint is impacted by friction.

"Shoulder bursitis can be a very painful and limiting condition," Dr. Chris Kaczmarek said. "It can progress to the point where normal daily activity, recreation and sleep can be severely interrupted. The cause can vary from direct trauma to the shoulder to poor posture, but if properly treated, all symptoms can be resolved and you can return to your normal daily activities and recreation."

Causes of shoulder bursitis include the performance of repetitive activity, aging as the tissue loses elasticity and healing opportunity minimizes and poor posture that makes the shoulder more prone to irritation.

Another cause of shoulder bursitis is trauma to the shoulder.
