Ten things to pack for every travel nursing assignment

As a travel nurse, you are jetting off to somewhere new all the time. One month you'll be on assignment in a seaside Massachusetts town, and a few weeks later you'll be caring for patients down south in Houston. The opportunity to explore so many places and meet new people is one of the best things about working as a travel professional.

However, because you're traveling so often, it's easy to forget all of the essentials you'll need on assignment. While you might remember to pack your camera or your favorite fluffy pillow, you could get in a jam by forgetting something important like documentation or your credit card. That's why we've put together this list of things you should pack for every travel nursing assignment. Print it out, stick it in your suitcase or wallet and reference it every time you're getting your items together for a new assignment. It can help keep you organized before and during your trip, and doing so will help you avoid problems or inconveniences along the way.

1. Certification documents/cards
2.Two forms of US-issued identification – These could be a driver's license, social security card or passport.
3. Immunization records
4. Proof of education
5. Documentation related to background checks
6. Documentation related to health restrictions
7. Credit card – You may be required to  have a credit card to set up services or for travel incidentals, but you should also bring a debit card and/or cash if you plan to use these forms of payment. Consider checking with your bank to see if there is a branch near your housing accommodations.
8. Cell phone – So your recruiter can reach you on assignment.
9. Laptop, tablet or web-enabled smartphone – To stay connected with loved ones.
10. Personal items, such as photos, to help make your accommodations feel like your home away from home.
