Make the most of your time off from working as a travel nurse or travel therapist

As a travel nurse or travel therapist, you spend the majority of your year caring for patients and working long shifts. Therefore, make the most of your upcoming vacation or time off in between shifts by planning something a little out of the ordinary. By trying something different and really taking some time for yourself, you can return to work rejuvenated and better than ever. So consider these fun things you can do while on assignment or between contracts and be the best travel RN or travel therapist you can be.

1. Plan an adventure – Take this opportunity to do something exciting. A little adrenaline rush can be more refreshing than anything else in the world, and you're never too young or old to check off a few things on that bucket list. Why not climb a mountain, explore the Grand Canyon on horseback, do a little gambling in Las Vegas or even go skydiving? Your next vacation or day  off is as good a time as any to do this.

2. Visit a friend – Remember that long lost friend from nursing school or old next door neighbor who you keep meaning to call and make plans with but never do? Try calling them up and asking if they would be interested in spending an afternoon catching up or meeting for dinner and drinks. If you can visit a friend who lives at the beach or works at a cool boutique, you may be able to plan a relaxing weekend.

3. Get pampered – Many people find nothing to be more relaxing and refreshing than having a massage, facial or other spa treatment. If that's not your thing, consider a simple haircut or fresh shave. Not only will this be enjoyable during your visit to the spa or salon, you will also leave looking great and feeling confident.

4. Learn something new – Just because you're taking a break from work doesn't mean you have to take a break from your passion for travel nursing or travel therapy. In fact, that’s what makes the travel healthcare lifestyle so attractive!  Plan a trip to one of the many nursing museums around the country to learn facts you never knew about your profession and see some interesting healthcare memorabilia. For example, The Museum of Nursing History in Philadelphia could be a fun trip to make.

5. Accomplish a task – Whether you have been meaning to finish a project for your home, write a romance novel or plant a vegetable garden, use this time to accomplish a fun task and be proud of your work!
