Campuses seeing uptick in demand for those pursuing a medical career

While the economy continues to slowly improve, many recent graduates are finding there are opportunities for those who pursue a medical career.

Neil Burton, executive director of the Michelin Career Center and Cooperative Education at Clemson University, told the Greenville News that he has seen an uptick in on-campus recruiting.

Specifically, Burton said that employer recruiting on campus is up 47 percent this year and job postings are up 25 percent.

Tom Halasz, director of the University of South Carolina Career Center, said that the market is improving, especially for those who are pursuing nursing jobs and other careers in the healthcare sector.

"There are some definite positives we are hearing about," he told the news source.

Halasz also pointed out that the number of job postings were up on his campus as well.

The numbers back up Burton and Halasz's claims. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the healthcare sector will create 3.2 million jobs in the decade leading up to 2018. In addition, 10 of the top 20 fastest growing careers are healthcare related, according to the BLS.
