Eastern Pennsylvania medical center to enhance healthcare staffing with grant money

Some of the $2 million in grant money for a southeast Pennsylvania medical center will be earmarked for healthcare training for inner city residents to fulfill medical staffing opportunities, according to BCTV.

At a meeting at the St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Reading earlier this month, officials also noted funding will be directed toward efforts to reduce youth violence and to assist with children’s preparation for future endeavors in life and school. The parent organization of the medical center, Catholic Health Initiatives of Colorado, is assisting with the funding

“We are proud to announce these grants today,” president and chief executive officer John R. Morahan with the medical center told the news source. “The recipients have earned their funding, at least in part, because of the work they have done. They are committed and talented partners who share the same ideals we do in achieving a healthier community. Each of them provides the framework for advancing health and human services in Berks community.”

Building Brighter Futures, the initiative to support healthcare opportunity, will provide training opportunities at the medical center’s campus in downtown Reading.

Catholic Health Initiatives underscores the importance of creating healthier communities while emphasizing human dignity and social justice.
