What is a Hero?

According to the dictionary, a hero is a person, who is admired for courage or noble qualities or a person who, in the opinion of others, has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal.

I have had a couple amazing opportunities in the last month to hear some outstanding speakers relating to heroes. The first event was at the Wellness Council of America Awards Luncheon in April. The guest speaker was Battalion Commander Richard Picciotto, the highest-ranking officer in the Twin Towers when they collapsed on 9/11.

Aureus Medical Dodgeball Tournament

There was a lot of balls bouncing off walls, tables and people on Saturday, April 2nd. The second annual “Ducking & Dodging for A Cure” co-ed dodgeball tournament, organized by employees in Aureus Medical, was a huge success! A total of 14 teams participated, raising $1,010 for Camp Quality Heartland. Congrats to the team of Fire [...]

Preparing for Spring’s Surprises

Spring is just around the corner. Thank goodness! We’ve all been subject to our challenges this winter with extreme cold, above average snowfall, and icy roads. However, there IS light at the end of the tunnel. This past weekend was “Spring Forward” for those areas observing daylight savings time.

With spring upon us, we will be able to enjoy longer days, warmer weather and the sights and sounds of spring. Along with the joys and wonders of this new season come new challenges, including tornados, floods, earthquakes, and tsunamis.

Managing the Winter Blues

It hits around the same time every year. The buzz of the holiday season is behind us, the days are shorter, the weather colder, and many people start to experience changes in their mood, behavior, and overall demeanor. These symptoms are usually associated with the “winter blues” and may be an actual medical condition known as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).

Tax Season is Upon Us

Tax season is right around the corner and its time to start preparing! Here are some general rules to follow that will make the tax season easier on the nerves.

Keep your paperwork together
Even if you are preparing your own taxes, in most cases you will need to have some paperwork to accompany your filing. Some people keep paperwork in a shoe box and other have an organized file. No matter your method, keep your paperwork!

Keeping Healthy Through the Winter

Many of us make New Year’s Resolutions each year, and even more of us break them the first month. This year, let’s change it up – let’s make a goal to stay healthy during the cold/flu season. With all of the viruses and germs being passed around, it can be hard to avoid those nasty bugs. But it can be done. Even though we are all in the medical field, we sometimes forget that even the simplest things can keep us virus free.

A New You for A New Year – Keeping Your New Year’s Resolutions

Did you know that the tradition of the New Year’s Resolutions goes all the way back to 153 B.C? Janus, a mythical king of early Rome was placed at the head of the calendar. With two faces, Janus could look back on past events and forward to the future. Janus became the ancient symbol for resolutions and many Romans looked for forgiveness from their enemies and also exchanged gifts before the beginning of each year.

Social Networking: Look Before You Leap

As all of our schedules grow busier and more hectic, our desire and ability to stay connected becomes more vital…connected to family and friends, connected to our communities, and connected to our professional peers.

Social networking has become more than just a pastime; it’s become a way of life. Hundreds of millions of people take to the internet daily to catch up with others, post pictures and videos, and even express their political views. In fact, it is estimated that there are more than 600 million people are active users of various social networking sites. But there is a dark side that lurks with the use of this powerful tool, when our mishaps, lapses in judgment, deepest fears, pains and tragedies are put on display for all to see and, in some cases, even feel. Not only are the likes of Facebook and Twitter our electronic partners in business, they’re seemingly becoming our personal therapists.

AurElves Provide Holiday Cheer

During the holiday season of giving, we as a company try to reach out to our community and help those less fortunate than us. AurElves volunteer and raise donations of toys, clothes, and toiletries for different organizations and families in the effort to keep the spirit of the season alive. It’s no surprise that AurElves has touched the lives of many who are facing personal difficulties, challenges, and struggles this holiday season. We want to share some of the cheer that was spread as AurElves made their stops across the Omaha metro area.

Looking to the Future

As the holiday season is fast upon us, we want to thank all of our travelers for their dedication and hard work over the last year. We are hearing more and more good news about the travel healthcare industry, so we are planning on a great 2011!
