Don’t Miss out on Your Top Spot during Peak Season

With the New Year approaching, many travelers are starting to consider where they want to go next on assignment. It’s a pretty safe bet that many will choose destinations that have peak seasons. My question to you – have you done your research yet?

One of the territories I cover is Alaska. I find that most of the adventurous travelers look to take an assignment here in the spring and summer. However, they are not willing to do any coverage during the winter months. If you are truly interested in getting to these HOT areas, there are steps you can take to increase your chances of getting there!

Whether you have several years of experience or are a recent grad, you can help your odds of getting to your ideal destination. First, you should get that particular state’s license. Managers all have delayed license stories, and they would much rather hire travelers with an active license. Second, consider going in the winter months, or off season, and extend through the desired months. This is the best way to ensure getting out to your desired location by paying your dues! Of course, making early plans and putting the word out there will also work out well; it is never too early to plan.

A lot of travelers don’t get to the area they want because they failed to take steps to secure the job, but taking appropriate measures will help you land that job that others only dream of. Keep in mind you are not the only person interested in these desirable areas. Competition may be fierce and the job market may be tight so ensure you are top of the list by working in a variety of settings and having previous travel assignments under your belt. Peak the hiring manager’s interest by the variety and depth of your experience and entice them to bring you on board versus the flurry of other candidates. Make yourself stand out by being knowledgeable about the area you are interested in and “wow” them during an interview! Make them just as interested in you as you are in them!
