Don’t forget: License registration may be just around the corner

With so many pressing requirements it may be easy for a travel nurse to forget to renew her license, which could cause potential problems. Therefore, she should be aware of the exact requirements of license renewal for the states she works in frequently.

Nurses will often be required to renew their license every two years or within two birthdays of the original issue date – depending on the state. A travel RN may wish to schedule a calendar appointment reminder ahead of schedule to remind her of the details in order to make any deadlines imposed by the board.

According to the Section 121 of the Business and Professions Code, a travel nurse may work pending the receipt of her renewed license if the renewal fee has been submitted on time and all renewal requirements have been met. However, the agency or medical institution a travel nurse works for may have different requirements.

While many states, such as California will try to reach a nurse by mailing her a renewal reminder approximately three months before the expiration date of the license, a travel nurse could be on the road and remain unaware.

A travel RN may wish to use a variety of ways to remember to renew her license within sufficient time, and consulting her travel nursing agency as a vested interest party may provide help in this matter.
